[Preferences Menu]

The preferences menu has several miscellaneous options:

  • QUICK RENDER : toggles the "QUICK RENDER" option. When set and an interactive transformation is taking place, solid objects are rendered as lines in order to obtain better interactive performance.
  • SECOND VIEW : pressing the "v" key brings up a second view of the structure. Selecting "SECOND VIEW" from the preferences menu allows the user to select the angle about the Y axis by which the second view is rotated from the first.
  • SHOWPICKSIZE: shows the picking area (default 5x5 pixels). This is useful when redefining the picking area (see below) in order to pick more then one atom or other object.
  • PICK SIZE: allows the user to adjust the picking area either with the mouse, or by specifying values in an input window.
  • PLAYBACK : allows the user to play back a "record" file (undocumented).
  • REWIND: start at the beginning of a "playback" file (undocumented).
  • RECORD: start writing to a "playback file" (undocumented).
  • NORECORD: stop writing to a "playback" file (undocumented).
  • PAUSE: enter a pause , in seconds into a "playback" file (undocumented).
  • DEMOS: brings up the QMView demos panel.
  • VRML BROWSER: prompts for a VRML file and displays it within a web browser.
  • WRITE MOLPLT: prompts for the name of a MOLPLT file and writes out the system currently being displayed.
  • SHOW TRANSFORMATIONS: toggles display of transformation values when an object is being interactively transformed.
  • CHECK DDD (no longer used).
  • DO NOT CHECK DDD (no longer used).
  • LABEL SIZES: brings up a panel to adjust atomic,bond and internal transformation label sizes
  • RENDERING : brings up a panel to adjust the rendering quality
  • USESSHOUT Use "ssh" instead of "rsh" for starting jobs on remote machines.
  • USESSHIN : Use "ssh" instead of "rsh" for remote jobs sending things back to QMView
  • SYMMETRY TOLERANCE: Allows the user to adjust the tolerance in symmetry calculations.
  • INTERACTIVE SCALING: Allows the user to adjust the scaling for all transformations.
